A comedy of errors

I am not far enough removed from the events (still feeling queasy) to be able to look back and laugh at what ended up being Lilly's birthday weekend but maybe one day I will be able to force out a little chuckle.

Lilly got sick in the night late Wednesday/early Thursday.  Nancy and David had just come into town (Wednesday evening) and were willing to come over Thursday and keep Lilly while Phillip and I went to work.  I ended up working 12-9 (two late nights in one week followed by extra early mornings due to my schedule change was killer).

Lilly went back to daycare on Friday, which was Nancy's birthday.  We all went out to dinner that night to celebrate and then to Krispy Kreme for dessert.

Nancy ended up getting sick.  Very sick.

We decided to go ahead with Lilly's party, which was just going to be a small family affair anyway.

Ellen and I went to gymnastics Saturday morning (fun!) and plans were made for Kendra, Laurie and David to come over around 12:30.

I ran to Kroger to get balloons and a few odds and ends.  This is where I first began to feel sick to my stomach (I was already suffering from cold/sinus issues).  I called Phillip thinking I might not be able to finish shopping (or make it home for that matter).  I bought two small bananas and ate them in the car.  Those bananas saved me.

We ordered pizza and had salad, chips and eventually cupcakes.  Lilly opened presents and had a blast playing with her new things, the tissue paper and the gift bags.  Everything was going well and I was doing okay until Phillip accidentally smashed in the side of Lilly's cake.  I was crushed.

Lilly was tired and fussy and didn't want anything to do with the cake so she and I took a little break and then Phillip rocked her to sleep.

While Lilly napped, Ellen played with the gifts she received and enjoyed spending time with her aunts and uncle.  David won Pretty Pretty Princess :)

The full on stomach bug finally hit me Sunday morning and no amount of bananas could stop it.  I was in bed most of Lilly's actual birthday.  Phillip took the girls to church for both services and entertained them in between.

Phillip started feeling bad yesterday and was in the bathroom off and on all night long.  He stayed home from work today to recuperate.

It has been one thing after another around here.  (Add in the fact I was written up at work for excessive occurrences (missing work when the girls have been sick), ordered the wrong size disc for my necklace, Lilly's daycare teacher put in her 2 week notice last week and the inclement weather (possible ice storm)... help me Rhonda!)

We started Lilly on whole milk Saturday afternoon.  She wasn't too thrilled at first but it only took a day or two for her to get used to the switch.  I threw away all but one of her bottles today (safety net) so pray for us!  Hopefully she will take to the sippy cup without too much of a fight.

Lilly got three shots today.  Here are her 12 month 2 day stats:

Height - 30.5 inches (90%)

Weight - 23 lbs (90%)

Head circumference - 17 inches (25%)

Her next well visit is in three months.

Now that's a kid with a head in the 100th percentile!*

Lilly had her 9 month check up yesterday (she was officially 9 months and 11 days old).  They checked her iron (toe prick) and she got one shot - the first half of her flu vaccination.  She is doing great!  We go back in 1 month for the second flu shot and then again in January for her 1 year check up.

Length - 29 inches (89%)
Weight - 21.5 lbs (91%)
Head Circumference - 17 inches (36%)

We have always relished in the fact that our children (as infants) have smaller, more proportionate heads than some of their peers.  No offense to those big headed babies out there.  You're still cute.

Chunky?
Yes.
Big head?
No.

Center up, people!

Lilly had her 6 month check up this morning.  She is almost 18.5 pounds (84%), 26.5 inches long (74%) and her head is 16.5 inches (43%).  She got 2 shots.  We go back in 3 months for her 9 month well visit.

I was introduced to pretzel chips (or pretzel crisps, as indicated on the package) while on vacation and we all love them, especially me and Ellen.

I (finally!) started watching Downton Abbey and I am hooked.  It's right up my alley.

We're not enemies we're just bad friends - said by Dr. Doofenshmirtz on Phineas and Ferb

I think my office is going for the "so cold you can hang meat" mark on the thermometer.  It's no pants weather in our house but I dress for winter at the office (and I still freeze).

Ellen and I played I Spy while at Lilly's doctor's appointment today.  Instead of saying I spy with my little eye, Ellen made me say I spy with my big eye.  Ha!

Lilly does not like anything green (so far).  She eats everything else like a champ but when we put a bite of peas or green beans in her mouth she just lets it fall out as if she has no idea what to do.

Ellen is trying to teach Lilly to say Sissy.  Good luck with that!

I did not realize my Instagram account was being shared until Caleb told me (he's one of only a handful of followers).  Upon hearing the news I immediately started to panic.  I don't take racy pictures but it caught me by surprise.  Andrea did tell me that she wondered if I knew they could see my pictures when she came across one of me breastfeeding Lilly.  Yeah, that would be a sign I had no idea!

My stomach said, "Stop eating Ellen. Stop eating." - Ellen's explanation as to why she couldn't finish her dinner last night.

I wish I could take credit for the title of this post but I must give credit where credit is due.  Sara Jo yelled this to the cars around her who were riding close to the line.  I think this could be applied to other scenarios in life and plan to use it when applicable.

Our modem died over the weekend so we are no longer connected to the internet.  We are hoping to resolve this issue soon (it can't be soon enough!) but we are in the process of changing our internet/cable/phone provider so it could be a while.

Phillip's hours are now officially 8-5.  He was 8-6 but had to leave early every day to pick up the girls (and take 30 minute lunches).  He can now take his allotted hour lunch break and doesn't have to rush out of the office in order to make it to daycare before they close.  This is a very good thing.

Ellen has a dentist appointment in the morning.  She told me she likes being able to pick out the flavor of toothpaste they use to clean her teeth and she likes when they squirt water in her mouth.  Fingers crossed that she has yet another good experience at the dentist.

I am the kind of person who eats a bag of M&M's and then a couple of hours later thinks something sweet sure does sound good and I haven't had anything sweet today.  Only remembering about the M&M's after eating the chocolate chip cookie.

We saw a double rainbow Saturday night.  The rain was much needed; the rainbow was much appreciated.

4 months!

Height - 25 in (75%)

Weight - 13 lbs 12 oz (41%)

Head Circumference - 15.75 in (33%)

Lilly had her 4 month check up yesterday (she turned 4 months on Mother's Day).  She is doing great.  We haven't been feeding her quite enough, need to add another bottle into her feeding schedule, but she is growing and doing all of the things she is supposed to be doing.

[I was hoping to wait until we got home but Lilly was really fussy (long appointment + shots) so I ended up feeding her before we left the doctor's office.  Learning she needs to take in a few more ounces greatly influenced that decision :)]

Things to expect/anticipate... rolling over, laughing (she has laughed a few times for us), teeth (bottom middle) and introducing solids.  They now recommend waiting until 6 months before introducing solids, including cereal, but Dr. Frank said if she starts showing an interest in food then we can start with fruits and vegetables at 5 to 5 1/2 months.

Lilly has started rubbing her eyes when she is tired, she blows bubbles, babbles, grabs for toys, takes her pacifier in and out of her mouth, has a death grip, plays coy, smiles a lot and is constantly moving (likes to move those legs).

We go back in July for her 6 month check up.

See you next week?

Just in case the girls didn't catch anything at the pediatrician's office the first or second time we came in for Lilly's recent well visits, we went back for a third try this morning.  Not really.  But Ellen did manage to dump the contents of my wallet on the floor which only further increases all three of our chances of involuntarily getting sick.  Lilly "failed" the newborn screening test they did at the hospital so we had to go by the doctor's office to give another blood sample.  It was eating time for Lilly so she was not very happy but it was a relatively quick process so we were able to wait until we got home to feed her (we live less than 5 minutes away).  Glad to get that taken care of but hopefully no more doctor's visits until her 2 month check up.

Lilly weighs 9 lbs 3 oz.  She is a growing girl!

Someone's been eating their Wheaties

Lilly had a 3+ week well visit yesterday.  She is doing great.  We talked about my two concerns, her belly button (I have a hard time looking at it) and the spitting up, amongst other things, while Ellen pretended to be a nurse (had pen and paper in hand and everything).  Lilly's belly button looked fine and Dr. Frank isn't too concerned about the spitting up based on how much she is growing (we discussed it in length).  We go back for a 2 month check up in March.

Length - 20.75 (42%)

Weight - 8 lbs 10 oz (39%)

Head - 13.88 (21%)

Lilly watched her first Duke/Carolina game last night.  Go Duke!  Phillip woke me with his screams of delight and we were not even in the same room - he was downstairs and I was fast asleep in our bed.  I think I heard his battle cry.  He was happy to say the least.
