Dad is here!

Granddaddy's little helper
Tea Party

We are having a great visit with my Dad/Granddaddy. He arrived yesterday afternoon and Ellen immediately started showing him all of her toys. I guess she really took it to heart when we told her that Granddaddy was coming and he was going to play with her. She is so happy he is here. We met Phillip at Chuy's for dinner (very good, great waitress), played at Toys R Us and then went to church. Dad gave Ellen a Barbie mermaid on the way home and it was a big hit. She slept with her last night and there was a lot of hair brushing going on this morning. Today we ate breakfast, read books, played with a new tea party set from Mom and Dad and then went to Dollar Tree, Ross and Kohl's. I got Easter Eggs for Kite Day (at church later this month) and Dad got Ellen some cute white church shoes for spring/summer. After a quick lunch Ellen took a nap and Dad and I got a head start on dinner prep for the chicken spaghetti. Dad also work in our yard - trimmed the bushes and trees. It turned out to be a beautiful afternoon despite the rainy and overcast morning. We ate dinner once Phillip got home and then played with Ellen's dollhouse for a while before bath and bedtime. Ellen was very restless and I didn't think she was ever going to fall asleep! We watched Survivor and The Office in between checking the basketball scores. Wake lost this afternoon but hopefully Duke will play well. Looking forward to having Phillip home with us tomorrow. He supposedly took off because Dad is here but it also happens to be the ACC tournament... I smell a rat.

Beouf Bourguignon

Phillip and I finished watching Julie & Julia last night. I saw it in the theater a few months ago but this was Phillip's first time. We both really enjoyed the movie but there is a side effect that is taking over our lives - a certain someone can't stop saying "Beouf Bourguignon". I will admit that I have said it a few times myself, but Phillip is out of control. Even Ellen was getting in on the action on the way to daycare this morning. It was comical to say the least.

I looked up the recipe this morning. It seems complicated but I may give it a try.

Sparkles

Someone wanted sparkles, aka nail polish. She did not get this idea from me. I have never had nails to paint. Prior to yesterday, we didn't own any nail polish.

That somebody changed her mind within minutes of getting her nails painted, but they were mostly dry so she will have to live with it for a while. Plus we don't have any nail polish remover :)

Hotsy Potsy

May 17, 2008
Eight Months Old
Ellen's first time at Hotsy Potsy. We had a little adventure trying to get a "clean" hand print. The finished products, not pictured, turned out great. I wrote her name and date on each piece. We gave the plate to Phillip's parents and one of small tiles to my parents. We kept the other tile. I will cherish it always.

Yuck!

2 1/2 Years Old
Fast forward almost 2 years... new location and owner but still the same great experience as before. We let Ellen choose from 10 (maybe more) small animals to paint. They each cost $7. She decided on the horse and chose 2 colors, purple and brown. She was very focused on her work and would not look at me!

You Say Tomato, I Say Tomato

Ellen's mispronunciations are so cute. We do say the word correctly and then have her repeat it back to us, but it doesn't always stick with her. She usually repeats the word correctly but then reverts back to her old ways. She still puts "s" on the end of a lot of words. A few examples:

Room = Roon
Bowl = Bold
Sleeping Beauty = Sleeping Muney
Spaghetti = Sketties
Corduroy = Cordaboy
TV = TB
Yellow = Lello
Something = Sumping
Cupcake = Pupcake
Napkin = Natkin

She also runs names together:

Bert & Ernie = Berternie (even if it is just one of them-like her Ernie bath toy is Berternie)
Cole & Savannah = Colenana

Words/phrases that we especially like the way she says them:

Chocolate
Handy Manny
Sesame Street
ABC's
Washcloth
Girls
Popcorns
Green Beans
"What you have Mommy/Daddy?" - when we have something she wants
"What boy/girl doing?" - when watching other people
"I wake up!" - every morning and after every nap

Recent favorite quotes:

"I have Cinderella on my booty" - referring to her princess Pull Up
"That's not a monkey, it's Curious George"
