Shiny Happy People

It's been a strange week, and not just because Downton Abbey didn't record Sunday night like it was supposed to (DVR fail).  Snow days tend to disrupt the natural order of things.  And Lilly has not been feeling well which further complicates matters.  Making it to Friday feels like quite the accomplishment.  Go team!

...

The first week was difficult, partly because change in general can be overwhelming for me and partly because I am suffering from a mild to moderate case of PTSD while also trying to learn new things, but thanks to my new co-workers, the second week was much better.  And check out that title :)

...

Lilly's 4 year old stats:

Height:  40 in (65th percentile)

Weight:  37 lbs (67th percentile)

She is perfect in every way!

...

Polar fleece sheets.  Get some.  They just may change your life.  #cozy

...

Ellen stopped biting her nails.  We are so proud of her!

And she can ride her bike without training wheels!  She is still overly cautious and somewhat hesitant, but she has come a long way.

...

Lilly only likes the blue kind of Chapstick (original).

...

Phillip bought me a MacBook Pro.  It was a total surprise.  Are we keeping this?  Do you have the receipt?  Not only can I blog in bed, the ultimate goal, but it will come in handy if I ever need to work from home.

...

We went to Opry Mills two Saturdays ago.  The girls had so much fun at the Bass Pro Shop.  They also got to ride the carousel.  Life is good.

...

Phillip's competitive side comes out when he's playing Mario Cart.  He can't handle anything less than 1st place.  I have similar tendencies when playing Yoshi.  We must get all of the yarn!

...

Phillip and Ellen went to the Father/Daughter dance at Heritage last weekend.  They had a great time.  Ellen danced her little heart out :)

...

Laurie came over Sunday afternoon to cook for us and watch the Super Bowl.  Ellen helped her make brownies before we went to church.  I was very pleased with the outcome of the game :)

...

Ellen is really into time.  What time it is, how long we will be gone, what time it will be when we get back.  Mostly because she doesn't like going places but I like to think that deep down she has the family's best interest at heart.

...

We don't have big plans for Valentine's Day because every day is like Valentine's Day around here - wink, wink.  And maybe because I share a bank account with someone who purchased a laptop in the last 10 days.  Either way, we are keeping it simple.  We gave the girls personalized fleece blankets from Land's End, which they love, and I have a few treats and surprises saved for Sunday.  Love is in the air!

Snow Days

What a week!

Monday:  Phillip and the girls were home Monday due to the holiday (I had to work).

Tuesday:  A normal day for us - work and school.

Wednesday:  Freezing rain - nothing major but enough to keep us all home.  Phillip worked while I wrangled the kids.  Church was cancelled.

Thursday:  A normal day - work and school.

Friday:  Another stay-at-home day but this time we got real snow.  Phillip was able to work from home again.

Saturday:  Highlights: We played in the snow, watched DuckTales and went to Kroger that evening.

Sunday (yesterday):  Church, Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, Singing at NHC (Ellen), Lads to Leaders (Ellen, her first time), an afternoon of laundry, cooking and watching football (from the kitchen), church (we taught Children's Bible Hour), fellowship meal with our visitation group (we are back in the program after taking a 5 year break) and then more football.

Each of our favorite teams are headed to the Super Bowl!  One of us will be happy no matter who wins :)

---

To recap...

It snowed!  The girls only went to school 2 days last week, I worked 3 days and Phillip worked 4 days, 2 at home and 2 at the office.

I don't think we could have fit another activity (or chore) into our Sunday.

We are a house divided.  (Go Broncos!)

---

Round One: Friday

Ellen checking to see if the snow is play-worthy

She decided it was, so back inside they went for gloves and boots (Ellen) and more layers (Lilly)

Now she's ready :)

Round 2

Post snow angel

Sledding at the house next door
(steeper driveway and no one is currently living there #winwin)

Phillip took a break and joined us outside

Round 3: Saturday

Wipe out

Neighbor's yard

Ellen's turn

Lilly put her face in the snow just for fun

Just sitting on a pile of snow...

Lilly calling it quits

"Can somebody let me in?"

Happy and free
(I didn't run through the aisles but it was nice to get out of the house.)

---

"I'm not going out in the snow ever again!" - Lilly, every time she came inside after playing in the snow.  Time heals all wounds :)

---

School was out again today but we sent Ellen to SACC.  Lilly had a 2 hour delay.  It will be business as usual tomorrow.

It was fun while it lasted!
