Pre-K Open House

We had an Open House at Ellen's school tonight.  We got to meet her new teachers, Ms. Parker and Ms. Puckett, and check out her new room.  She was excited!  They have two Pre-K classes this year so some of Ellen's long time friends will be across the hall, but she and Katie Beth will still be together and that is all that matters in her world.

It is going to be a great year!

Just how excited was she?  She was so excited that she couldn't look at the camera :)
At least we know she was having fun

I need a do over

This weekend was not that great.  I didn't feel good, I didn't sleep well, I had to work... it was not quite the weekend I had been looking forward to all week.  Work was actually okay but I don't like coming home to life in progress.  Why that puts me in a bad mood is yet to be determined, but it does.  And I suppose going to Wal Mart on the Saturday afternoon of tax free weekend was probably a bad choice.  So was eating McDonald's late last night.

Some highlights from our weekend:

Phillip and Ellen went school supply shopping (they also went to the park).  She has a list of about 7 or 8 things she needs for Pre-K.  She had fun picking out folders and markers and glue sticks.  My girl is growing up.  Wish I had been there!

I bought Ellen some washable Crayola paints and a pack of brushes at Wal Mart.  She had so much fun painting pictures of Dora out of a coloring book my Mom and Dad recently gave her.  She took them to school today to show her friends, that is how excited she was about these paints and her artwork.

We picked out the bike we are going to get Ellen for her birthday.  She's going to love it.

Phillip:  Ellen, someone is drinking your apple juice
Ellen:  Who?
Phillip:  It's not Daddy
Ellen:  Aha!  Mommy!

Ellen got an invitation to a birthday party and she is thrilled.  She is all about maintaining her social calendar.

Three going on Four

My little sugar pie will be 4 in less than a month.  I can't believe it!  At 3 years, 11 months and 1 day, Ellen...

Likes a full tub at bathtime (the more water the better)

Can be sassy and stubborn

Eats mushrooms, cucumbers and black olives like I eat barbecue chips (meaning she loves them)

Will only wear dresses that spin (we battle over this every Sunday morning)

Is so sweet when she first wakes up in the mornings (she is sweet other times too)

Says things like... "Let's rock and roll Mama" when she is ready to hit the road and "Oh bother" when she is in crisis

Has candy on the brain 24/7

Loves watching Max and Ruby, Busytown Mysteries, Backyardigans, Angelina Ballerina and DuckTales

She dreams in color, she dreams in red (not really, Pearl Jam just came to mind)

Laughs when she toots (I have Phillip to thank for that one)

Almost always says Panera when we ask her what restaurant she wants to go to, and it is all because their kids meals come with gogurt

Is excited about being a big sister

Still trys to stall at bedtime (I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, I don't want to sleep in my room, I'm not tired, etc.)

Likes to write, draw, color and paint

Cannot sit still in church, or chooses not to (argh!)

Is shy at times (which is funny because I know the real Ellen)

Sleeps with 10-15 animals at night (and night night and purple blanket)

Has a fondness for Chuck E. Cheese, going to the park and Target (likes to look at the toys)

Tells it like it is

Loves her family, especially her cousins

And last but not least, our soon to be 4 year old is ready for her fairy and butterfly themed birthday party!

Stay at home day

I am off today to work Saturday.  Ellen and I have had a great day.  We played play-doh, an absolute must on stay at home days.  I did some cleaning while Ellen made a few messes.  We went to Chick-fil-A to see what we could see and then spent a good chunk of time at Target.  I watched a movie while she took a late nap.  I did more today than I have done in 2 weeks.  Phillip will be home soon and we are planning to grill out tonight.  Feels like Saturday but reality will hit tomorrow morning when the alarm goes off at 5:00.  In the meantime, I will be savoring what is left of today.

Whoosh... whoosh... whoosh

I heard the baby's heartbeat today, which is always a comforting sound.  I also scheduled my ultrasound appointment for next month.  We will hopefully find out if we are having a boy or girl on September 1st.  Perfect timing because my family will be arriving the very next day to help us paint and organize the nursery (and celebrate Ellen's 4th birthday!).

A few conversations

Ellen:  Let's have a little chat about our plan for today

Me:  Well, it's bedtime now.  The day is over.

Ellen:  Let's make a plan for tomorrow

---------------

Me:  Thanks for going to the grocery store tonight

Phillip:  No problem.  I would have gotten more fruit but the raspberries and blueberries were almost $4 each.  They were 2 for $4 just the other day.

Me:  You've been at the store so much lately... you know all of the deals

Phillip:  Unfortunately

Me:  That makes 6 times this week.  You went Monday night, Tuesday night, Thursday night, twice on Friday and then again today.

Phillip:  Yeah I know.  The check-out girl asked me what kind of mushrooms I had so she could ring them up.  I couldn't remember the name but I told her the code was 4085.

---------------

Me:  I need you to fold these 2 loads of laundry and clean up the kitchen

Phillip:  I am tired of being you
